morning. 24 hours. zero heartburn. >>> just three weeks since president obama was re-elected and already there are rumblings of a major shift in american involvement in the crisis in syria. by all accounts, this is a very messy and lethal civil war with no easy solution, especially for outside countries who would like to help but can't afford the immense risks that come attached. now today the "new york times" is reporting that the united states may start directly arming the rebels in syria. that's opposed to what we're already doing, sending humanitarian and intelligence support. and all of this comes as the rebels appear to be getting somewhat stronger. take a look at this video that was shot by cnn. it is the wreckage of a fighter jet that syrian rebels shot down. the third such aircraft that the rebels say they have shot down in just the last 24 hours. and, of course, we don't know yet where the anti aircraft weapons that were used actually came from. cnn's nick paton walsh was there and joins us live now with the latest in beirut. nick, i don't know if there's any feeling on the gro

is the american people ended elections on november 6th, voiced their approval of president obama's approach to this. over 3 million more people voted for him than voted for mr. romney. and then if you look at house democr democrats. only 201 of us got eelected. that means the rest were republicans. >> i understand that. >> but over 500,000 more votes than they got -- >> with all due respect, representative, we understand that the president won and you feel that democrats won. but is the speaker right? has progress been nil on the talks for two weeks? >> well, i don't know what's been happening for two weeks. i have not been in the meetings. i do know this. when we passed the budget control act, we cut $1.5 trillion. all cuts. another savings of another $200 billion, 1.7 billion coming from cuts. now, it seems to me that if revenue is going to be on the table, let's put revenue on the table. the senate has passed a plan and sent it over to the house. let's vote on it. it provides for middle class tax cut. let's have that middle class tax cut and then let's debate the other issues later on. >
